چکیده

Variational Monte Carlo calculations of the quasielectron and quasihole ex-citation energies in the fractional quantum Hall effect have been carried out at filling fractions ν = 1/3, 1/5, and 1/7. For the quasielectron both the trial wave function originally proposed by Laughlin and the composite fermion wave function proposed by Jain have been used. We find that for long-range Coulomb interactions the results obtained using these two wave functions are essentially the same, though the energy gap obtained using the composite fermion quasielectron is slightly smaller, and closer to extrapolated exact-diagonalization results.

Monte Carlo comparison of quasielectron wave functions

We construct a new representation of composite fermion wave functions in the lowest Landau level which enables Monte Carlo computations at arbitrary filling factors for a fairly large number of composite fermions, thus clearing the way toward a more detailed quantitative investigation of the fractional quantum Hall effect. As an illustrative application, thermodynamic estimates for the transpor...

We have been using wave functions reconstructed from lattice Monte Carlo simulations of QCD to calculate the masses of orbital excitations. We have also been trying to use wave functions as a tool for hadronic phenomenology. Our work has been presented in a series of papers [1]. We present a synopsis of it here. We will also comment on issues relevant to excited state spectroscopy which came up...

Diffusion Monte Carlo results for the phonon-roton excitation branch in bulk liquid 4 He at zero temperature are presented. The sign problem associated to the excited wave function has been dealt both with the fixed-node approximation and the released-node technique. The upper bounds provided by the fixed-node approximation are shown to become exact when using the released-node method. An excel...

This paper investigates Monte Carlo techniques for construction of compact wavefunctions for the internal atomic motion of the D 3 O + ion. The polarization force field models of Stillinger, et al. and of Ojamae, et al. were used. Initial pair product wavefunctions were obtained from the asymptotic high temperature many-body density matrix after contraction to atom pairs using Metropolis Monte ...
